Global Action - Big Lent Walk

During Lent, we completed our first global action by taking part in CAFOD’s Big Lent Walk. This was a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together to support people around the world who are living in poverty.

To launch the event, our Mini Vinnies led a special assembly where they explained the meaning of the Big Lent Walk and how the money raised would help others. We also wrote to parents to share what the children would be doing and how families could support them. This links to the Catholic Social Teaching principle of Looking Out for the Poor and Vulnerable, reminding us that by raising money we are helping people who are struggling or in need.

The whole school took part in a sponsored walk to raise both funds and awareness for CAFOD. We began each walk with a prayer. By doing this, we showed that we are living in solidarity with our global family and putting our faith into action.

“Little children, let us love, not in word or talk, but in deed and in truth” (1 John 3:18)

This scripture reminds us that love is not just something we say, but something we show through our actions. By walking and raising money for CAFOD, our pupils were able to live out this message and make a real difference to people in need.

Kacper, 6S - Mini Vinnie President "Taking part in the Big Lent Walk has been a great opportunity to take a break and spend time thinking about the poor and vulnerable. Our walking has helped raise awareness and money for those living in poverty. I am pleased I can follow in Jesus' footsteps and help others."

Towards the end of Lent, we organised a dedicated day where classes took turns to complete the walk, ensuring that from the beginning of the school day until home time there was always a class walking. This meant that every pupil had the opportunity to take part and contribute to this shared act of solidarity.

On 20th March, we held a special Big Lent Walk to our local church, St Clare’s. Our parish priest, Fr Jais, welcomed us and led us in prayer. Parents, parishioners, staff and other Catholic schools in our Trust were invited to join us. It was a joyful and meaningful event that helped raise both awareness and funds for the poor and vulnerable.
